An early morning wreck tied up north bound traffic on Interstate 75 when a tractor trailer crashed with another vehicle around 6:45 near mile marker 281 atop the Lake Allatoona Bridge.

Eventually involving a second tractor trailer, the incident sent a driver from one of the trucks to Cartersville Medical Center and blocked all lanes of traffic until approximately 8:10 a.m. when one left hand lane was opened according to Georgia Department of Transportation Communication Specialist Mohamed Arafa.

"About 140 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled on the roadway and of course that resulted in blocking all three northbound lanes of I-75 at that location," Arafa said.

Damages were observed to the bridge from impact but an evaluation of those damages has not yet been determined.

"The crash resulted in some damages to the bridge," Arafa said. "How extensive these damages, we still do not know but a bridge inspection crew from Georgia DOT is looking and once they assess the damages we will know what kind of damage and what kind of repair is needed."

One of the tractor trailers involved was carrying a load of cars and the other was carrying insulation. Stations six and four of the Bartow County Fire Department responded to the accident which was cleared enough for all lanes to be reopened before noon.
