About 5:45 a.m. Sunday, a male pedestrian was walking in the far right lane of I-75 near mile marker 291 when struck by a northbound vehicle, according to Georgia State Patrol Public Information Officer Gordy Wright. After striking the pedestrian, Hendrix stopped in an attempt to aid the man now in the center lane when an oncoming tractor-trailer swerved to avoid them, striking Hendrix and his vehicle before jackknifing off the interstate into the wood line.
As this occurred, several vehicles struck the pedestrian in the roadway. The pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene and Hendrix was taken to Cartersville Medical where he had surgery Sunday for a leg injury. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
No charges will be filed in connection with the crash. The pedestrian, who had not been ID'd late Monday, had no identification with him, and it is still unknown why he was in the interstate.
