White city councilmen at their monthly meeting Monday expressed their interest in having a festival or similar event this spring in James A. White Memorial Park. But officials say they could use a little help in putting one together.

Councilwoman Lavonda Roberts proposed the idea of putting together a committee that would help the city put an event together in the coming months, which prompted City Manager Jane Richards to express the desire to see community members volunteer to be on such a group.

Those interested in potentially serving on the committee can drop by city hall, the O.W. Allen Municipal Administrative Building at 29 W. Rocky St., during regular business hours, which are Tuesday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. They can also call Richards at city hall at 770-382-5466.

Richards told the council that she hoped to garner some interest in the city's future event by visiting some area fall festivals and giving out business cards to vendors to let them know the city was looking to hold a similar event next year.

In addition to the potential event, councilmen discussed two other agenda items regarding the park.

The council approved a request from Fellowship Baptist Church of White to hold a tent revival on the park's baseball field. The revival will be held Sept. 20-24 during evening hours.

The church has requested, and been granted, use of the park area for revivals in previous years.

The other agenda item was a proposed list of rules for the park that would govern who can use the park, the hours of operation for its restrooms and children's playground and more.

Councilmen tabled approval of the list so they could have more time to review it and determine if rules needed to be amended or added.
