Mr. Alton Grady Wright, 79, of 2393 Highway 140 N.W., Adairsville, passed away Monday, Sept. 20, 2010, at his residence.

He was born in the Folsom Community, Jan. 19, 1931, son of the late Grady Robert and Mattie Lou Adcock Wright. Mr. Wright was a member and deacon of Cedar Creek Baptist Church. He was a decorated veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict where he was awarded the Purple Heart. Mr. Wright was also an accomplished farmer and member of the Red Carpet Cattlemen, even being named "Cattleman of the Year" on several occasions. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Glenise Mealer and Nettie Ruth Sutton.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Eloise Phillips Wright of Adairsville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Greg Bowen of Adairsville and Connie and Lamar Long of Dalton; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Meridy Wright of Adairsville; six grandchildren, Christy and Colt Bowen, Courtney and Chelsea Mathis, and Ben and Mikaylia Wright; two sisters, Violene Ezell of Fairmount and Marie Mealer of Adairsville; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Cedar Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Hibberts, Rev. Larry Hogan and Rev. Mark Owens officiating. Interment will follow in Hayes Cemetery. The body will lie-in-state from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour. Ben Wright, Colt Bowen, Robert Mealer, Michael Mealer, Johnny Owens, Dearl Adcock, Doyle Adcock and Edward Wilson will serve as pallbearers. The Cedar Creek Men's Senior Adult Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Barton Funeral Home.

R. Dudley Barton & Son Funeral Home, Adairsville, will be in charge of funeral arrangements for Mr. Alton Wright.
