Sheriff Clark Millsap said in a press release that patrol deputies apprehended Darrieus Turner, 28, of Decatur in the woods along Interstate 75 south between exits 293 and 290 near Tellus Science Museum. Law enforcement officers set up a perimeter after a deputy about 4:20 p.m. spotted the suspect's older-model gold Mercedes exit the interstate at Ga. 20 and continue down a dirt road leading to Noel Christmas Tree Farm near Cracker Barrel.
Turner fled on foot at the end of the gravel road, allegedly leaving the firearm and money inside the car, according to police scanner traffic. He was arrested about 5:40 p.m.
Police scanner traffic indicated that witnesses reported the armed robber entered Renasant Bank, formerly Crescent Bank & Trust, in Adairsville at 21 Eagle Parkway, about 3:35 p.m. Those witnesses apparently got a description of the suspected bank robber's vehicle and authorities issued a "be on the lookout" to neighboring jurisdictions.
