FORT WORTH -- Octavia "Tave" Young Harvey, 101, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010.

Memorial service: 2 p.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church.

Memorials: Presbyterian Night Shelter, 2400 Cypress St., Fort Worth, Texas 76102.

Octavia was born Dec. 20, 1908, in Cartersville, Ga. Tave was the daughter of Jessie Smith Young and William Watts Young, the owner of Young Brothers Pharmacy. She graduated from Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Ga., with a BA in mathematics and had an MA in education from the University of Georgia. Tave taught high school math, physics and chemistry for many years. She was later hired by Lockheed Aircraft in Marietta, Ga., as one of the first scientific computer programmers. Tave moved to Fort Worth in 1980 to be near her son and family. From her balcony at Trinity Terrace she enjoyed the view of God's world overlooking downtown Fort Worth. G.G., as she is affectionately known, had been very active in her church and was an avid bridge player. She had 11 great-great-grandchildren and is loved by all.

Survivors: Son, William Young Harvey; grandchildren, Octavia Harvey Leifeste, Bourke Cartwright Harvey, William Young Harvey Jr. and Holman Matthew Cartwright Harvey; and 11 great-grandchildren.
