Two local businesses Tuesday reported burglaries and the collective value of the items taken tops $15,000.

According to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office incident report, burglars entered Cass White Grocery and C & N Tire Repair respectively at 997 and 997-A Cass-White Road in Cartersville between 3 and 5 a.m. Tuesday.

The owner of the grocery told deputies he opened the door around 6 a.m. to find items on the floor and noticed the cash register was missing and the ATM had been broken into.

Paneling was removed from the store, and surveillance footage showed the suspects entered the business through the tire shop and removed a wall separating the two businesses.

In addition to a $200 firearm, $2,500 in cash and $1,000 in other items were taken from the grocery.

A side door of the tire shop was forced open and a rear fence pushed down. A hole in the wall led to the grocery.

In addition to cash missing from a metal box, a white 1988 Chevrolet Astro van, valued at $2,500, and other items, including tire equipment valued at $10,000 were taken from the tire shop.

An investigators was called in to process the scene.

Gas grill explodes, causes mobile home fire

Bartow County Fire Department officials believe an unattended gas grill exploded on the back porch of a mobile home at 7020 Glade Road, Lot 90, in Acworth, about 5 a.m. Wednesday.

When firefighters arrived, they saw light smoke. During an inspection of the structure they noticed fire coming from under shingles.

The blaze apparently spread to the attic and became trapped. The home sustained serious damage but no one was injured.
