Jeffrey Todd Smith

On Sunday, September 4, 2022, Jeffrey Todd Smith, loving father and grandfather, passed away at age fifty-seven. Born October 25, 1964, in Lafayette, IN, he graduated from Adairsville High School in 1982 and soon after enlisted in the United States Army, serving honorably from 1983 to 1986. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and aunt.

Jeff often said “Love is the greatest emotion,” and his children demonstrate that in their descriptions of their dad. They always knew that family was the most important thing to Jeff, but he showed his love through faith as well. As his daughter noted, he was a Godly man. Jeff was a faithful member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, where he worshiped and volunteered. Not only did Jeff find solace in his family and the church, he also found peace in the beauty of nature and shared that on the many walks he led. He loved to share a hidden waterfall or an expansive view.

Well-known for his love of people and conversation, Jeff could often be found at American Legion #47 discussing sports, history or politics, his favorite topics, of which he was so knowledgeable. Baseball season would find him cheering on the Braves or Cubs, football the Falcons and Colts, and when he couldn’t cheer on one of his teams, he would enjoy the NASCAR races that he had recorded, cheering as though he didn’t already know the outcome. Jeff enjoyed swapping books with his friends and bragging about his beautiful grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to show the latest photo, beaming with pride. He always had a kind word for others.

Survivors include his children, Matthew (Luci) Strother, Karen (Logan) Harris and Rachel (Jordan) Purdy; grandchildren, Evelyn and Emerson; father, George Dennis Smith; mothers, Susan Maltony and Cathy Smith; siblings, Cherie (Jason) Vincent, Carey (Todd) Nicholas and Andrew Smith; Aunt, Sally (Mike) Pierle; Uncle, Mike Smith; and a myriad of nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends who will miss him sorely.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at 12:30 PM from the chapel of Barton Funeral Home, Adairsville, with Father Louis Tonsmeire and Reverend Linda Pineo officiating. Interment will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery, Canton. The family will receive friends Monday from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Barton Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Matthew Strother, Logan Harris, Jordan Purdy, Wes Thacker, Thomas Pullum and Brian Jordan.
